Cataract Surgery

See Clearly. Live Fully.

As we get older, it’s natural for our eyesight to change. One of the most common age-related vision problems is cataracts, a clouding of the eye’s natural lens that can make everything look blurry, dim, or washed out.

At Eyesight Medical Center, we specialize in helping patients determine what stage their cataracts are in and helping them regain not just their vision, but the freedom and confidence that comes with it.

What are Cataracts and what are my options?

What are Cataracts?

A cataract occurs when the clear lens inside your eye becomes cloudy over time. This cloudiness blocks light from properly reaching the retina, making it harder to see clearly. Cataracts usually develop slowly, often becoming noticeable in your 60s or 70s—but they can start earlier.

You may notice:

Blurry or cloudy vision
Glare or halos around lights (especially at night)
Trouble reading or seeing faces clearly
Faded colors or frequent changes in glasses prescriptions
Increased sensitivity to sunlight

Why Does it Happen?

Cataracts are most commonly caused by aging, but they can also result from:

Long-term UV exposure
Smoking or diabetes
Eye injury or previous eye surgery
Family history

The good news? Cataracts are treatable with a simple outpatient procedure—and you have options that can help you see even better than before.

Cataract Surgery: Safe and Proven to Give Quality of Life Back

Cataract surgery is one of the most common and successful procedures performed today. At Eyesight Medical Center, “Dr. Nick” uses state-of-the-art technology to gently remove the cloudy lens and replace it with a clear artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL).

The procedure usually takes 15–20 minutes per eye, requires no stitches, and recovery is quick for most patients.

Your Lens Options: Standard vs. Premium IOLs

When it comes to lens replacement, you have choices. Your vision goals and lifestyle will help determine which option is best for you.

Standard Monofocal Lens

Covered by insurance
Restores vision at one distance (usually far)
May still require glasses for reading or computer work

Premium Multifocal or Extended Depth-of-Focus Lenses

Reduce or eliminate the need for glasses at all distances
Great for active lifestyles, reading, driving, or golfing
Not covered by insurance but often worth the investment in your quality of life

Toric Lenses

Designed to correct astigmatism
Available in both standard and premium options

Dr. Stathopoulos will take the time to explain each option clearly and help you choose the lens that best fits your needs, goals, and budget.

What to Expect Before, During, and After Surgery

Before Surgery:
We’ll perform a detailed eye exam, take precise measurements, and discuss your vision goals.

During Surgery:
You’ll be awake but relaxed. The cloudy lens is removed and the new lens is placed—all in one visit.

After Surgery:
Most patients see improvement within 24–48 hours and return to normal activities quickly. You’ll have a few follow-up visits to monitor healing.

We are with you every step along the way!
